Våtedalen valley
Våtedalen is a valley that runs from Byrkjelo in Gloppen in the north to Klakegg in Jølster in the south. The name relates to the word wade, meaning a place where a river can be crossed.
Våtedalen is a U-shaped valley formed by glaciers during earlier ice ages. Våtedalselva river flows from south to north through the valley and empties into Bergheimsvatnet lake at Byrkjelo. The Breimselva river runs from there, through the village of Breim, to Breimsvatnet lake to the west. The river is excellent for trout fishing.

At the end of the valley is Bergheim farm. The striking landmark Eggenipa mountain (1,338 m.a.s.l.) towers at the gateway to Våtedalen valley from Byrkjelo in the north. Våtedalen is known for goat keeping, and you may find yourself in the middle of a herd of goats on your way into the valley.
