Topptur til Skåla

Summit to Skåla

Skåla with its characteristic round tower cabin on the summit, is most likely one of the best known mountains in Norway.

One of the reasons for this is the 1800 hm long climb from sea level up to the top. For skiers, this doesn´t really mean the same because you normally ski down only to an altitude of 300 m. Nevertheless, Skåla is definitely one of the favorite mountains.

Starting point at a marked car park in the valley of Lodalen. Follow the forest road and where the road ends, continue up the Fosdalen on a track. Turn right and traverse the bottom of the valley at about 700 m a.s.l., and go ut the big

Starting point at a marked car park in the valley of Lodalen. Follow the forest road and where the road ends, continue up the Fosdalen on a track. Turn right and traverse the bottom of the valley at about 700 m a.s.l., and go ut the big mountainside towards the lake of Skålavatnet. You have now entered the Jostedalsbre National Park. Continue up from the lake in the direction of the big gap under Rongjuvnibba. Then follow the ridge to the left up towards the wide top ridge and the cairns will lead you to the roundtower cabin on the summit. It´s really a long climb.
There are enormous snowdrifts on the north side of the top ridge and the north wall has a vertical drop of 1000 m! Be extra careful in foggy conditions. The rounds tower and Skålabu is perfect for accommodation.
