Take at total timeout. Just enjoy the silence. Come to ready-made beds. Three bedrooms (sleeps 8) and 1.5 bathrooms. Two living rooms and a loft. Full kitchen, an outdoor kitchen and a whole yard as a playground. These are examples of what awaits you at Orheimstunet, a place perfect for the extended family. Three generations will have plenty of space here and memories to last a lifetime. Pets are also welcome.
The thick stone walls that frame the main living room provide true peace and quiet.
The garden offers American blueberries, raspberries, currants, apples, plums, pears, vegetables and herbs. Everything is of course organic, and if you dare you can participate in beekeeping. We produce honey for sale and during season you can also buy whole frames of raw honey. Our hens roam freely on the farm and every morning you will find eggs in the hen house. Perfect for your breakfast.

If we are at home, you can ask if you can join us on a short tractor ride.
You can walk straight out of the yard and onto a forest road which takes you into a “magical” forest that hides an old stone barn. At the stone barn you will find a fire pan, so bring some food and enjoy the tranquility of the forest. If you still have energy left, you follow the path up to Rødsetra or Lundavarden. The view from there is spectacular. There shore is only short walk away and here you can borrow canoes, try fishing or go swimming in the Nordfjord. We have fishing equipment and life jackets for loan.
In the yard you will find the Stabbur , an old storehouse, which houses a mini-museum. Here you will find the entire Bible in Braille, books and periodicals from 1880. You can also try playing water glass music or the old Harmonium (wooden organ). There are huge amounts of literature here, and you can relax in a bed from 1884, trying to decipher stories from before the First World War. All written materials are the work of or collected by Matias Orheim. You can read more about him here: Matias Orheim – Store norske lexicon (snl.no)
Part of the Orheimstunet farm is Orheimssætra. a mountain meadow where the milk cows used to graze in the summer. The old buildings at Orheimsætra show how farming worked 200 years ago. Orheimssætra has beds for 7-8 people.
Orheimssætra is truly off-grid. You have to carry the water 100 meters, use candles for lighting and firewood for heating and cooking. There is very little cell phone coverage and no charging. Orheimssætra is an hour walk from Orheimstunet. Alternatively, you can drive 5 minutes up the valley, followed by a 30 minute hike the rest of the way.
Orheimstunet has most of what you need for long stays, including linens and towels, washing machine/ dryer and detergents. The kitchen is also fully equipped and there is both a grill and fire pit.
There is no freezer or charger for an electric car, but that can usually be arranged.
The hosts live in the house next door and can advise you on excursions. We have extensive knowledge of Nordfjord and Sunnmøre.
Here is some information about local excursions, places that other tourists know nothing about:
Naustdalkamben is a great half-day excursion. Relatively easy terrain.
More about Stårheim https://www.hjartestad.no/starheim/
This is a nearby waterfall called Gryta (cauldron) in the local river. It is either child-friendly or very romantic place, depending on your needs.
Other excursions:
The Fannstøylen mountain meadow is accessible via a nice path and easy parking is available in Stårheimsdalen) About 2 km hike (30 minutes) Suitable for everyone.
Trip to Løysingvatnet. About. 2.5 km from Fannstøylen. Take a night in the beautiful "simple" mountain hut at Løysingvatnet. Bring a fishing rod and ALWAYS remember to write in the cabin log!
Orheimstunet is located in the middle of Nordfjord. This means that within an hour's drive you can see everything from West Cape to Briksdalen and the Loen skylift. There are also opportunities for day trips to Geiranger in the summer. But best of all, you can enjoy total peace and quiet at Orheimstunet.
